About Me
Petrina Burkard is a fashion designer and artist originally from rural Canada and transplanted to California in 2010. She joined the collective at Santa Cruz’s 17th Ave Studios in 2017. Creating first a line of up-cycled children's clothing, then entertaining commissions and producing a range of ladies wear. It was through collaboration with other artists that Petrina’s focus shifted towards pieces bridging the fashion and art spheres/ with a one of a kind line of hand bags using discarded canvases donated by the artists around her.
Petrina is now exploring traditional art mediums like watercolour, continuous line drawing and other forms of illustration. Having grown comfortable with realistic representation she is currently working towards “not being a camera” and learning other ways to express her ideas. Greatly influenced by her love of fashion and the human form, as well as her graphic design background, Petrina is interested in exploring different mediums and blurring the lines between fashion and art, practical and beautiful.
